January 21, 2020 (Oxford, Connecticut) – Tradewind Aviation, premium operator of both scheduled shuttle and private charter flights, is rallying to aid relief efforts for Puerto Rico in the wake of destructive earthquake activity that has shaken the U.S. island territory in the New Year. With aftershocks still being felt and local lives significantly affected, Tradewind Aviation has donated the use of two of its modern Pilatus PC-12 aircraft to ferry food and much-need emergency supplies to the city of Ponce in support of relief efforts along the southern coast of the island. Many of Tradewind’s local employees and partners have been donating their time and assisting with these relief efforts with the first flight having taken place on January 13, 2020.
“Puerto Rico has long been a significant link in our airline operations throughout the Caribbean, and we feel it’s important for us to give our all and play a part in the recovery efforts,” noted David Zipkin, Vice President of Tradewind Aviation. “Our hearts go out to everyone affected. We’ll continue for as long as it’s needed.”
Meanwhile, one of Tradewind Aviation’s highly skilled San Juan-based pilots, Stuart Douglas Michael Hirsch, has assembled a team of dedicated volunteers to further support relief efforts. Hirsch has joined Simon Mason, one of Tradewind’s skilled pilots, to raise funds on behalf of Wings Of Michael/Alas De San Miguel, a military order vowed to the Judeo-Christian spiritual warrior tradition of Michael the Archangel for the purpose of the rescue and protection of those at risk, while working closely with Endeavors of Puerto Rico to identify targeted areas of need and coordination of ground logistical support with regional law enforcement, National Guard, and volunteer agencies. To that end, Hirsh and Mason have launched a GoFundMe site – Airborne Puerto Rico Earthquake Response Ops – for donations, which are 100% tax deductible. As of January 11th, the pair’s initial fundraising goal of $5,000 had already been generously surpassed.
Tradewind Aviation is right at home in Puerto Rico, employing the island’s major airport, Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport (SJU) in San Juan, as a hub for connections for its scheduled shuttle service and on-demand charter flights to destinations throughout the Caribbean, including St. Barths, Anguilla, Nevis, Antigua and St. Thomas.
